Sri Lanka is a country in South Asia, which boasts of a rich cultural heritage spanning over 2500 years. This had been enriched by many other cultures, especially from India. This Itinerary covers some UNESCO world heritage sites including some great cultural highlights with fascinating hill country attractions like the first tea plantation in Sri Lanka and a train journey through the misty hills.

Day 01

AIRPORT / NEGOMBO

  • On arrival at the Bandaranaike International airport, you will be warmly greeted by your very own chauffeur guide and escorted to Negombo (Approx. 30 mins drive). After arriving at the hotel, spend the day at leisure relaxing and enjoying the hotel facilities.
  • Spend overnight at the Hotel. Accommodation will be rooms with ensuite facilities. Your stay is on bed & breakfast basis.

Day 02

NEGOMBO / SIGIRIYA

  • After breakfast, we will be driving to Sigiriya (approx. 4 ½ hrs drive).
  • Spend the afternoon visiting the spectacular Sigiriya rock fortress with its rocky abode & water gardens.
  • Spend overnight at Hotel. Accommodation will be rooms with ensuite facilities. Your stay is on bed & breakfast basis.

Day 03

SIGIRIYA / POLONNARUWA

  • After breakfast, we will be driving to Hiriwadunna Village.
  • HIRIWADUNNA is just 30 minutes’ drive from Sigiriya. Trek through the archetypal Sri Lankan Typical village. The trek begins with an awesome walk along a lake bunt or man-made reservoir. The reservoir itself, the surrounding scrub jungle, marshland and village are a hive of early morning or evening activities. The amazing birdlife, butterflies and possible sightings of crocodiles only add to the charm of seeing the villagers as they go about their early morning tasks of fishing or washing clothes at the periphery of the lake. You will continue your tour on a bullock cart, up to a village house where you can experience a Sri Lankan Lunch.
  • After lunch, we will be driving to Polonnaruwa (approx. 1 hour & 30 minutes drive) where you will take a cycling tour to a better kept ruin site of ancient Ceylon – the UNESCO World Heritage City of Polonnaruwa, which was the medieval capital of Sri Lanka. Today you will be cycling for about 10km on soft surfaces as you whizz between the ruins.
  • Spend overnight at Hotel. Accommodation will be rooms with ensuite facilities. Your stay is on bed & breakfast basis.

Day 04

SIGIRIYA / DAMBULLA / MATALE

  • After breakfast, we will be driving to Kandy (approx. 2 hrs drive) and route visit Dambulla Cave Temple and Spice garden.
  • SPICE GARDENS- For centuries, spices have been one of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated exports and are used for medicines and cosmetics as well as to flavour food. We will sample scents and flavours such as cinnamon, ginger, pepper, vanilla and cardamom.
  • In the afternoon, you will enjoy the city tour of Kandy including a visit to the temple of the sacred tooth relic, upper lake drive, market square, gem lapidary, etc.
  • After the city tour, you will be able to check in to the hotel. In the evening, you will enjoy a Candle lit Dinner at the hotel.
  • Spend overnight at Kandy. Accommodation will be rooms with ensuite facilities. Your stay is on bed & breakfast basis.

Day 05

KANDY / PINNAWALA

  • 7:00am: You will be picked up from your hotel in Kandy and driven approximately one hour to reach the Taylor’s Hill where you start your guided tea experience to the Loolkandura Estate. Loolkandura Estate situated in Kandy district is the very first patch of tea planted as a test after the failure of coffee plantation in Sri Lanka. With the wild success of this plantation, then 21 years old planter James Taylor, who was in charge of this plantation, has been forever immortalized and has become a part of post colonization history of Sri Lanka.
  • 8:30am – 12:00pm: Enjoy a traditional Tuktuk ride to the Estate and visit a number of historic sites in and around Loolkandura with a local guide who has vast knowledge about the estate.
  • In the afternoon, we will drive to visit Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage (approx. 1 hour drive).
  • Spend overnight at Kandy. Accommodation will be rooms with ensuite facilities. Your stay is on bed & breakfast basis.

Day 06

KANDY / NUWARA ELIYA

  • Today after breakfast, you will be able to visit the Botanical Garden in Peradeniya.
  • On completion of the visit you will proceed to Peradeniya Railway Station for a spectacular train journey to Nanu Oya Railway station on Expo rail. Train leaves Peradeniya at 12:30hrs and reaches Nanu Oya at 16:30 hrs (The entire journey time will be approximately 4 hours). This train journey is the most spectacular train journey in Sri Lanka. You will be picked up from Nanu Oya railway station and transferred to Nuwara Eliya.
  • Surrounded by hills and tea plantations, town of Nuwara Eliya enjoys spring-like weather throughout the year. A favourite retreat of the British during colonial times, the town is dotted with English country style houses and half-timbered bungalows and Hotels. No surprise it’s earned the name “Little England.
  • Spend overnight at Hotel. Accommodation will be rooms with ensuite facilities. Your stay is on bed & breakfast basis.

Day 07

NUWARA ELIYA / COLOMBO

  • After breakfast drive back to Colombo (approx. 6 hours drive). On arrival check in to the hotel. In the afternoon we do a city tour of Colombo including time for shopping.
  • Spend overnight at Colombo. Accommodation will be rooms with ensuite facilities. Your stay is on bed & breakfast basis.

Day 08

COLOMBO / AIRPORT

  • Today after breakfast we will be driving back to the airport (Approx. 1 hour drive) for your flight back home.
